Welcome to the

Alan Rickman Download Haven

Guest Book

The purpose of the Alan Rickman Download Haven Guest Book is for group discussion of Alan Rickman’s projects (old and new), news, information, and pictures.  Also welcome are questions, sightings, and reviews.

Our community is made up of many long-time members, and is continually joined by new AR fans.   As a new poster, you may want to browse our archives or lurk for a short while so you get a feel for our community.  We don’t have a lot of rules, but we do expect everyone to respect each other and to respect Alan Rickman.

When posting information or pictures you've found from other sources, please try to include credit for the hard working source that provided it.   Sometimes it may be impossible to remember where you found something and that is OK too because 9 times out of 10 another member will remember and post the information a little later.

AR fandom sometimes suffers from what our group has fondly come to call “AR Drought”.  Its these times, we find solace by digging deep into our AR archives and posting an old piccie  (or two) and/or an old interview.  These always seem to generate good fun discussion and often brings back some wonderful memories for some of our members.

When you want to post thoughts about one of AR’s films, you might want to consider using a flag such as *SPOILER* before you write your thoughts just in case someone hasn’t seen the film and doesn’t want to know about it ahead of time.   The Harry Potter phenomenon is so huge, it has its very own place.  Please find the link to our HP Spoilers Forum below.  You’ll find lots of good discussion about plots and theories in the realm of Harry Potter.

In addition, what’s a good friendship without some place to get as silly and squeely as humanly possible ?    Goodness knows AR gives us a lot to Squeeee about!  Our Alan Rickman Download Haven Discussion Party fits the bill for that particular part of our personality.  It’s a rip roaring party and there’s a lot of laughs and good times to be had by all.  We talk about anything and everything over there and would love to see your participation.
Finally, our Alan Rickman Download Haven Live Chat Room is a place to shoot the breeze with other AR fans in realtime.  Pop in any time and you never know who you will run into or what the topic of discussion might be.  It’s a great way for our members to get to know each other a little better, and to continue conversations not specific to the main ‘on topic’ board in as much detail as they’d like.  Lots of  AR-admiration goes on and laughs are had in the chat room!

There is a fantastic group of Alan Rickman fans from all over the world represented here and each person adds to the fun in their very own way.

Lurking is welcome but we would love for you to post your comments when you feel comfortable.

The most important thing to keep in mind is......HAVE FUN!

If you have any problems posting,
please don't hesitate to email one of us

A very fine article. Lent "Eye in the Sky" to daughter and son-in-law a few days ago and they were very impressed by Alan and the film.

While I was reading your posts, I imagined a future, in a nice, warm place, where we could keep - not posting - but talking, all together, with all the dear ones, with Magda, Jan, Suzanne... and Alan, forever!
Rest in Peace, Magda, and wait for us!
A big hug to you, Sue!

Magda, have a lovely journey. Say "Hi" to my dear Jan (she used to write here too) and to Alan. You all are truly missed, never forgotten.

Sad news about a poster that some of our old timers may remember. Magda of Aberdeen has died. We had so much fun and saw Alan's final performance in Private Lives together and also saw him at Manchester narrating The Ground Beneath My Feet. RIP Magda.

Hello, Nat.  I am not sure which interview this is, but a lot of Alan's interviews are available on YouTube if you cannot find them elsewhere.

Anybody else have an idea which interview this is?  [ga_fun_searching]

Hello! A long time ago I listened to a radio interview that he gave, where he talked about Hollywood's obsession with youth. There was one part where he talked about how young actresses are sort of cycled out as soon as they get even a tiny little wrinkle - something to that effect, but most importantly - he said during that part of the interview that he isn't interested in what people look like on the outside - what concerns/intrigues him is who people are on the inside.

Well, I simply loved the way he put it into words, but I was very stupid and didn't save/download the interview! After he passed, I went around to his fan sites, but I couldn't find it. Then I remembered "Brits and Clips", and I have a feeling that this is the place where I first heard the interview (I remember clicking on it and it opened in a new browser tab).

So far I have found one zip file here under the "Audio" tab. It's from 1992 Toronto. I plan to listen to it later tonight, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to also post this message in case anyone remembers the interview and knows exactly where I can find it. I want to make my own video tribute, and I really want to include that part of that interview.

Well, either way, thank you for keeping this website going! There is so much here that you can't find anywhere else, so thank you for the work it took to find and preserve all of these memories for us!
 [thanx]

"Any production of Christopher Hampton's 1985 play, adapted with epigrammatic wit and elegant symmetry from the scandalous 1782 epistolary novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, has to contend with the long shadow of its celebrated predecessors. Or more specifically, with memories of the actors paired in its central roles. It's not the swordfight in which the broken Valmont goes up against one of the many dupes he has humiliated that matters so much as his fatal duel with the Marquise, in which the mutual longing and jealousy of these one-time lovers become the ultimate weapons.

"Watching Lindsay Duncan and Alan Rickman draw blood in those roles in the original Royal Shakespeare Company staging, which traveled from London to Broadway, remains an unforgettable thrill three decades later. [T]he material served as a sizzling joust between ideal partners, playing at the very top of their game." -- From a Hollywood Reporter review of the current Donmar Warehouse production of LLD at the Booth Theatre in Manhattan

The NYTimes critic Ben Brantley:

"When this play was first seen on Broadway in 1987, in a Royal Shakespeare Company production staged by Howard Davies (a director of novelistic finesse who died last week), Lindsay Duncan and Alan Rickman slithered into its leading roles with the avidity of sleek, sexy foxes in a henhouse. In the same parts, Ms. McTeer and Mr. Schreiber come across as magnificent bulls who have strayed into a Limoges china shop."

Although I never saw AR and Lindsay Duncan in LLD, their Elyot and Amanda in Private Lives were truly sensational.

Sting also interviewed in Saturday's Daily Telegraph Review section:
"....Alan Rickman. We had dinner with him a few weeks before. Alan invited Trudie and I specifically to say goodbye to us, but without saying goodbye. His wife told us later - he came to New York and had dinner every night with his close friends. We called him on New Years Day- we heard he was in a hospice. He said 'Oh, I'm fine. I just had a blood change.' He was dead two weeks later."

The new link worked for me- thank you so much for sharing this. I like it very much and think it fits our man. Would be nice to hear that from a real live orchestra.
Wish I could compose! I am looking forward to more from you in the future. Please share that too!!
Yesterday I saw a very young girl wearing an AR memorial pullover - quite unusual in my country. And one of my students got a tattoo... Seems there are more people out there having loved AR than we would ever have thought. I guess we will never stop missing him. And tributes like yours do help, Glazed Hut.

Thank you and hugs to everyone!!

Actually I have wrote a piece of music for Alan, and here is the link:http://music.163.com/#/song?id=411754683

The album cover is also drawn by me. I chose the fish scarf because it appeared in many his pictures and reminds me of him.

I am a mere beginner in composition and not so satisfied with it myself, so I haven't shared it with many people. I also plan to write more pop songs for him in future.

Puddingdale

However, I think the song he wrote does not really fit to our Alan but rather to David Bowie and other rockstars.

I can't remember where I found this link, but there are several parts where it is incredibly moving.  It also includes AR on stage speaking two famous monologues--I won't give them away.  If you haven't seen this--it's 25 minutes--be prepared to become very emotional, so perhaps choose your viewing time carefully.  I hooked up my laptop to the tv for the biggest screen and best sound.  You will notice Rima throughout.

It feels like an encapsulation, and to me, it feels like a farewell, somehow prescient.  With a deep, lasting effect . . . .

I am called a late bloomer (it seems) in everything I do.  I fell I love with Alan Rickman in Robin Hood and have enjoyed every film and have searched for every film he has been in.  I was disappointed in his film, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" because of the poor film and not his role.  He is such a presence in everything.  I felt that his role was so diminished from who really was and that was such an incredible actor who always encapsulated that person he was playing!  I am deeply grieved that his light and talent in such a dark world as left us.  He was and is an incredible force of talent and such reality to the human existence we all experience.  His feelings were and are part of my existence today.  I can't describe his loss because it is indescribable.  I will miss him always....

"Eye in the Sky" has been released in Italy the 25th of August and I was very angry because even the biggest cinema in my country (5 rooms!) wasn't showing it. [protest]

Than I discovered that the smallest and cleverest in my town will show it soon.[up4]

Even if I'm waiting for the Dvd, I will be happy to see Alan once more on the big screen. Ok. "Happy" is not the right word: I will be honored, moved and tearful...

And I will go to see "The Limehouse Golem" and, I know, I will end to buy the Die Hard coloring book!

Thank you so much, everyone. I had so been looking forward to this film, hoping it would again be a great lead role for Alan in a suspenseful period thriller. Then suddenly it wasn't him and I didn't even consider it might be due to severe illness.
And now I know we will all go to see this film, wondering what notes Alan made on the character and imagining him in Bill Nighy's part so much that we might miss part of the plot.
I am glad that at least it is someone like Bill who took the role...

I hope you are all okay. *hugs*
