Welcome to the

Alan Rickman Download Haven

Guest Book

The purpose of the Alan Rickman Download Haven Guest Book is for group discussion of Alan Rickman’s projects (old and new), news, information, and pictures.  Also welcome are questions, sightings, and reviews.

Our community is made up of many long-time members, and is continually joined by new AR fans.   As a new poster, you may want to browse our archives or lurk for a short while so you get a feel for our community.  We don’t have a lot of rules, but we do expect everyone to respect each other and to respect Alan Rickman.

When posting information or pictures you've found from other sources, please try to include credit for the hard working source that provided it.   Sometimes it may be impossible to remember where you found something and that is OK too because 9 times out of 10 another member will remember and post the information a little later.

AR fandom sometimes suffers from what our group has fondly come to call “AR Drought”.  Its these times, we find solace by digging deep into our AR archives and posting an old piccie  (or two) and/or an old interview.  These always seem to generate good fun discussion and often brings back some wonderful memories for some of our members.

When you want to post thoughts about one of AR’s films, you might want to consider using a flag such as *SPOILER* before you write your thoughts just in case someone hasn’t seen the film and doesn’t want to know about it ahead of time.   The Harry Potter phenomenon is so huge, it has its very own place.  Please find the link to our HP Spoilers Forum below.  You’ll find lots of good discussion about plots and theories in the realm of Harry Potter.

In addition, what’s a good friendship without some place to get as silly and squeely as humanly possible ?    Goodness knows AR gives us a lot to Squeeee about!  Our Alan Rickman Download Haven Discussion Party fits the bill for that particular part of our personality.  It’s a rip roaring party and there’s a lot of laughs and good times to be had by all.  We talk about anything and everything over there and would love to see your participation.
Finally, our Alan Rickman Download Haven Live Chat Room is a place to shoot the breeze with other AR fans in realtime.  Pop in any time and you never know who you will run into or what the topic of discussion might be.  It’s a great way for our members to get to know each other a little better, and to continue conversations not specific to the main ‘on topic’ board in as much detail as they’d like.  Lots of  AR-admiration goes on and laughs are had in the chat room!

There is a fantastic group of Alan Rickman fans from all over the world represented here and each person adds to the fun in their very own way.

Lurking is welcome but we would love for you to post your comments when you feel comfortable.

The most important thing to keep in mind is......HAVE FUN!

If you have any problems posting,
please don't hesitate to email one of us

Judging from the amount of good quality youtube excerpts I guess they did indeed film the whole play. My, rewatching them made me smile Is there a way we could encourage them to release it?
And while we are at it, I would really like to see Les Liaisons and Private Lives too. [wave]

I am called a late bloomer (it seems) in everything I do.  I fell I love with Alan Rickman in Robin Hood and have enjoyed every film and have searched for every film he has been in.  I was disappointed in his film, "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" because of the poor film and not his role.  He is such a presence in everything.  I felt that his role was so diminished from who really was and that was such an incredible actor who always encapsulated that person he was playing!  I am deeply grieved that his light and talent in such a dark world as left us.  He was and is an incredible force of talent and such reality to the human existence we all experience.  His feelings were and are part of my existence today.  I can't describe his loss because it is indescribable.  I will miss him always....

Thanks, Puddingdale. Yes, somehow nowhere in German cinemas....

Thanks for the information reg. Romeo&Juliet. I just searched for it... the seller doesn't send to Germany... so I found another one.... then I found the 12 CD Shakespeare box... then I found the 37 CD Shakespeare box.... .... and finally bought that. [oh]
Cheaper than on amazon.de by the way.

Well, guess I must face the facts that Eye in the Sky won't come to cinemas over here. They have it in shops now and not even displayed among new releases. *sigh*

By the way, I just saw amazon.co.uk offers Rasputin for a reasonable price again - I think one of you was looking for it?

And they have a DVD of Romeo and Juliet with our Alan as Tybalt. I had no idea that existed on DVD

"Eye in the Sky" has been released in Italy the 25th of August and I was very angry because even the biggest cinema in my country (5 rooms!) wasn't showing it. [protest]

Than I discovered that the smallest and cleverest in my town will show it soon.[up4]

Even if I'm waiting for the Dvd, I will be happy to see Alan once more on the big screen. Ok. "Happy" is not the right word: I will be honored, moved and tearful...

And I will go to see "The Limehouse Golem" and, I know, I will end to buy the Die Hard coloring book!

Hugs to everyone!

I wasn't aware Eye in the Sky is already available. Don't want to have it either yet - so I will wait a while hoping it will come to German cinemas soon. Not that I am too keen on that last experience on the big screen either

Thank you so much, everyone. I had so been looking forward to this film, hoping it would again be a great lead role for Alan in a suspenseful period thriller. Then suddenly it wasn't him and I didn't even consider it might be due to severe illness.
And now I know we will all go to see this film, wondering what notes Alan made on the character and imagining him in Bill Nighy's part so much that we might miss part of the plot.
I am glad that at least it is someone like Bill who took the role...

I hope you are all okay. *hugs*

Here an interview to Bill Nighy and the first poster for the film, with Alan. The italian article says, about the changes made by Jane Goldman on the script which came from Alan's notes and thoughts, the same things written on the link from Renie.

The DVD of "Eye In The Sky" includes very brief "extras" on "morality" and "perspectives"-- not nearly as much as one would expect or hope for, in light of the topic.  Maybe they felt press releases and interviews had already covered it. (Most of it is short clips from the film you've just seen.)  If you have not yet seen the film, do yourself a favor and skip *all* this until AFTER you've seen it.  Even if you have to wait a bit.

***possible spoilers?***

Gavin Hood, the director has said, "I thought, if the film is prompting this kind of questioning in myself, maybe it’ll have that kind of effect on an audience."  This Huff post article does a pretty good job of distilling the conversation.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/zaki-hasan/interview-director-gavin_b_9605436.html

The message is, this kind of military activity (drone strikes) raises deeply troubling issues and, "
We should have these difficult conversations."

AR does not appear in the extras, but producer Colin Firth says a few words.  Helen Mirren also speaks. More from her here though.

http://www.npr.org/2016/03/11/469980318/do-you-sacrifice-one-for-many-mirrens-latest-film-has-no-easy-answers

And more on the film here, including Colin on AR.

Sorry if this info has already been posted.
Ciao.

I don't like to reveal on a public forum information that is really no business of anyone but Alan and Rima.  But I feel I need to clarify this.  The decision to sell the old home and purchase another one happened many months before Alan passed away.

Puddingdale
07/29/16

Comments:
I have been told years ago that he lived in that street, I merely did not know which house. And the looks of the balcony fit descriptions I read in the past. Besides, some googling shows that there is also a company under Alan's name listed with that address as well as alterations to the building filed under his and Rima's name.
So, the odds are that it is true.

And yes, I totally understand that Rima would not want to keep the flat. It is beautiful but far too big for one person and more importantly, holding too many memories. I don't know if I would keep it still but Rima should do whatever she needs to in order to cope. I hope she is well.

Here it says Rima sold their home in February. Scroll down a bit:
http://alan-and-rima.tumblr.com/

I never met Alan in person. Last year I've been in London the second time in my life (the first was about 30 years ago) and I was thinking I might see Alan somewhere on the streets. Later I read he then must have been in hospital already.
So if I could go back in time I would overcome my fear of flight earlier and go to London to see Alan on stage.

Favorite encounter?  Probably at the stage door after Private Lives when I asked him to sign my copy of The Winter Guest which had already been signed by Emma Thompson and Phyllida Law.  "You got the BOTH of them!", he said, smiling hugely and looking right into my eyes.  I was unable to speak or walk for quite some time.

Most wished for lost opportunity to see him?  Les Liaisons Dangereuses, no question.  But a close runner up would be Tango at the End of Winter.  [sad2]

Leana, I saw Borkmann too I agree Alan's voice did not project too well on stage but in the first row that was hardly noticeable. It was a great play with him, wasn't it?
And afterwards my friend and I met him too. At the bar of the theatre - as some others had managed before. He was very kind to us to, even chatting a little beyond the necessities. I did not ask for an autograph but have a photo with him that I treasure. Great times.
I am still sad at times, like all of you seem to be. Even though nothing really changed in our lives, it still is like some distant family member and friend everyone loved has gone.
Hugs to you all. [gruppenkuscheln-smilies-0001]

I'm sorry if some of you feel it's a spoiler...There are so many more 'real' spoilers in those plays that I really didn't feel it was one at all. I apologize again! Maybe at least it will be a motivation to go to see the plays?[wink5]
Thank you for the spoilers alert anyway.
I was lucky enough(well, I managed to be...)To see A.Rickman on stage in Dublin a few years ago in 'Borkman'.
He was at home on the stage and his performance was great! (Except for his voice because he couldn't speak loud enough sometimes due to his specificities I guess)but we were sitting in the third row so it was ok.
After the show, We met him and chatted a bit and got autographs...It was cold but He stayed there with us quite a long time! Wonderful memories...RIP Alan...

Comments:
Thank you, Ali-Pat. And I was not angry, just worried others might feel it was a spoiler too. It all depends on what you expect from a play I guess, and what you want to be surprised by. So some people might see a spoiler where others see nothing, therefore:

SPOILERS BELOW*************************

I am not sure if the spontaneous applause really was a tribute to AR but rather think it was one to the character of Snape. He was the most complex and loved character in the end, and many were saddened by his story. I would have applauded too - for Snape, not for Alan. Because I would have loved the fact that Rowling acknowledged the audience's demand and love for Snape with an appearance in the play.
But who knows... it may have been a mix of both for the audience.
Anyway, thanks for the story, leana. I hope I will be able to see the play one day too. [handshake]
